How to Use SEMRush
First off, you’re probably wondering, what is SEMRush?
SEMRush.com is one of the best SEO and digital marketing platforms you can leverage to grow your business online. It has a ton of features, including:
- Local SEO
- Advertising Campaigns
- Social Media
- Content Marketing
- Competitor Research
In this article, we’ll delve into our favorite SEMRush.com tools. These are tools that will allow you to crush the competition by giving you valuable insight into what’s working for top competitors in your niche. By the end of this article you’ll have a good grasp on these SEMRush features:
- Website Traffic
- Keyword Magic Tool
- Advertising Toolkit
How it works: SEMRush offers a ton of valuable information about your competitor’s website, including:
- Top keywords they rank for
- Your competitor’s top competitors
- Which backlinks they’re ranking for
- Which pages are driving the most traffic to their website
We’re going to take a deeper dive into the last one – which pages are driving the most traffic.
What you’ll see: This feature will give you a look at the competition’s top web pages and the traffic they get on a monthly basis. Why is this feature so valuable? These are proven topics, and replicating them will bring traffic to your website. At Socialty Pro, we like to call this a ‘rinse & repeat’ strategy, because it’s simple, and once you’ve finished you can repeat the steps and do it all over again.
How to apply it: When you click onto one of your competitor’s pages, it will give you an even deeper dive in. You’ll see:
- Top keywords
- How the topic was viewed over time
Look for blog topics that are proven to be successful and that apply to your niche and goals.Let’s say you’ve found a blog post that’s proven to drive traffic and it’s something relevant to you and what you’re trying to accomplish.
Want to know how to put the strategy to work? It’s simple. Take the body of the blog, copy it, and paste it into a brand new document. Now, following their post as a guide, rewrite the article in your own tone, words, and using your own research.
Take this method a step further by looking for things that you can expand or explain better. What’s your competitor’s post missing? How can you make what they’ve done better? Can you embed a related photo or YouTube video? How can you make your article more readable than theirs?
Your goal is to take your competitors’ proven topic and make it uniquely yours – only better.
Things to keep in mind:
- Don’t copy the text, copy the outline.
- If this article has been successful for your competitor over time, it will be successful for you over time as well.
SEMRush Keyword Magic Tool
How it works: Like the name says, this tool shows you all of the keywords your competitor is ranking for.
What you’ll see: With this feature you’ll see your competitor’s keywords and how they rank.
How to apply it: Look for relevant terms that have significant search volume, and a low KD percentage. KD is Keyword Difficulty – and you want that number to be low. The higher the number, the more difficult the keyword is to rank for.
How do you know what the right keyword will be? Let’s take ‘Digital Marketing’ as an example. Digital Marketing is a general keyword and there are tons of businesses, websites and influencers trying to rank for it. Instead, you have to get creative.
Use longer tail keywords – these are keywords with three or more words. So we scroll through the Keyword Magic Tool until we find a long tail keyword related to Digital Marketing that interests us. “How to do digital marketing in rural areas” is the topic we pick. We’re much more likely to rank for this keyword because 1) 50 people per month search for it and 2) it has a KD of 0.
*Socialty Pro Master HINT* Want a leg-up on the competition? Here’s how to get it. You know how everyone tries to rank for popular, general keywords, the ones with off-the-charts KD? Start looking for more specific keywords. If you craft good content based on more specific keywords, you’ll rank. For a lot of these keywords, good content doesn’t exist yet. Be the one to create it and your niche will begin to trust you as a source.
SEMRush Advertising tool kit
How it works: This is the tool where you can spy on your competitor’s ads, and use the information to replicate their complete ad campaign, if you want to. This tool kit has a ton of different features, including:
- Ad copy
- Keywords they’re bidding on
- Display ad banners they’ve created
- Where their banner ads are running
What you’ll see: As an example, we’ll use 1-800-FLOWERS.com. We find that they have 588,000 searches per month from their paid advertising efforts. We can also see the actual keywords they’re bidding on, and:
- The search volume of the keyword
- The CPC or cost per click, which is how much they spend everytime someone clicks on their ad
- The page the ad will drive a potential customer to
We can also delve deeper into their ad copy, and find out:
- URL displayed
- Meta Description
- History of their ads
- List of all the ads they’re running currently
How to apply it: We can use this information to build our own advertising campaigns, based on the proven strategy of our competitor.

SEO For Beginners
If you’re here to learn SEO, welcome! You’ve come to the right place. Whether you’re brand new to SEO with no experience or you’re somewhat-acquainted, this SEO for beginners guide will help you better understand it. In this article you’ll learn:
- How to find what your customers or audience is searching for.
- How to create content around the topics people are searching for online.
- How to put it all together to optimize for your website or online business.
What Is SEO? (Search Engine Optimization)
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. In other words, it’s a way to optimize the content on your website so it stands out among similar content on search engines. It’s a way of increasing your visibility. To better understand SEO, think about the search engines you use like Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing – even YouTube. When you visit one of these search engines, you type in a question and then an answer to your question pops up, right? Keep your own experience with SEO in the back of your mind as we teach you some strategies to master it.
And if you really want to get a head start to get more website traffic and beat your competitors, you can get my brand new SEO video course by clicking the link below!
How Does SEO Work?
SEO works best when you create content based on the things you know people are searching for. That way YOU can be the website, business or person to provide your market with the answer. So, the question is, how do you figure out what people in your niche are looking for?
In the next section we’re going to delve into two popular, FREE websites that allow you to identify popular search terms and phrases. They are:
First up is AnswerSocrates.com. This is an excellent, free tool – and it’s easy to use.
How Does AnswerSocrates.com Work?
- Type in a topic.
- Select the country you want to work within.
- Select the language.
When you press search, your keyword will generate a bunch of phrases, questions, prepositions and comparisons. These are the popular searches people are doing right now. You’ll want to comb through these phrases to figure out which ones apply to your business. Then you can create content around the ones that make the most sense for you and what you want to accomplish.
Let’s look at an example.
Let’s say you work in the field of drug rehabilitation. First off, you decide to use “drug rehab” as your search term. When you press search, dozens of phrases to do with drug rehab populate your screen. Some don’t really have anything to do with your business goals like “can I sue drug rehab?” or “drug rehab marketing” But then you find one that does. “What is drug rehab like?” is not only a good question, it also aligns with some of the goals you have for your business. Plus, you find it to be interesting and think you can offer insight. Now you can begin structuring a video or web-article based on the question.
Next up is Ubersuggest.com, which will allow you to take the Socialty Pro strategy to the next level. And that’s because this tool gives you actual search volume, meaning the actual number of people per month that are searching for a particular phrase or keyword. The free version of this site has a limited data set; when you pay for the tool it unlocks more information – but the free tool is good enough, especially when you first set out to understand the search terms your industry is most interested in.
How Does Ubersuggest.com Work?
- Type in a keyword
- Select country
- Select language
When you press search, your keyword will generate a bunch of keywords, and you will also see four tabs. They are:
- Search volume: The actual number of people who search for that keyword every month.
- SEO difficulty score: A number, up to 100, that signifies how hard it is to rank for that keyword. (The higher the number, the harder it is to rank.)
- Paid difficulty: How difficult it is to pay to rank.
- Cost per click: Another tool to figure out how much it costs to rank.
Use Ubersuggest.com in your strategy
When something is easier to rank for you’ll see it highlighted in green. Your goal is to find keywords and questions that are consistently searched for but at the same time easier to rank for. Then, you can create web articles around those topics. This is what we call a “proven strategy”.
How Do You Write For SEO?
You need to write for SEO so that you can rank for SEO. Next, we’ll show you some Socialty Pro strategies for writing. Here we’ll discuss all of the items that should be in your content – this includes:
- Your proven SEO topic
- The value you provide
- Proper SEO formatting
Your proven SEO topic
Our strategy for writing SEO is to create a document that keeps you on task. First thing is to keep your keyword, phrase or question front and center. You can literally write the keyword or question you’re building the content based on at the top of the document so it is at the top of your mind and at the top of the searcher’s mind.
Remember, ranking for SEO is not just about using keywords that will drive traffic to your page, it’s also about answering a question that your audience is looking for the answer to. It’s about providing your audience with value. AND providing your audience with the next steps, like giving them your contact information or providing them with details for a product you’re selling, etc.
How Do you Format SEO Text?
Now we’ll show you how to format your SEO text so that it makes sense and you can reach the most people possible. Up above we taught you how to use Ubersuggest.com to find the questions people are asking in your niche. Now we’re going to take that one step further.
Back on Ubersuggest.com you can see how others in your market are ranking for the same keyword. Again, we call these proven strategies – because these are the topics and questions we already know are important to your niche. Familiarize yourself with some of the other people, businesses and websites that are ranking for these topics and recreate their pages in your own words.
What should the document entail?
We recommend the following:
- 5 to 6 paragraphs; 200 words per paragraph
- 1,000 words total
These paragraphs should be formatted based on what you think people in your niche are curious about. You can go back to Ubersuggest.com and pull out some of the popular subtopic searches that make sense to what you’re writing.
Let’s look at an example
Let’s again say that your topic is “drug rehab” and that you found out a lot of people want to know “What is drug rehab like” some of your paragraphs might answer other questions, like: “How much does drug rehab cost”.
Optimizing Your Pages For SEO
When you’re done writing out your content you’re going to want to optimize the content for your website. From here on out, everything we’re doing is on the back end. Below are the important pieces you’re going to want to be sure you plug in so that your website is optimized to rank on Google.
Every paragraph in your article will have a header tag. These tags are numbered from H1 to H6. The lowest number is the most important. So, your most important question or topic will get the H1 spot.
SEO title and meta description
Your SEO title and meta description are what shows up in Google search. The SEO Title is what viewers see in blue; and the meta description is the description below.
The Slug is the actual URL.
Embed images and video
*Socialty Pro master HINT* you may want to embed a video within your article. Why? Because it gives the page more depth and richness, plus adding a YouTube video will add synergy by merging multiple search engines. While you’re at it, adding a few photos or images related to the subject is also beneficial.
Alt Text on image
When you’re done, add a complimentary keyword in the alt text; you can even add a descriptive alt text that gives a more in depth look into what’s going on. The purpose of this is to tell Google what the image is about, so they can relay that information to the visually impaired.
We hope you enjoyed this SEO for beginners resource!

Ahrefs.com SEO Competitor Research
If you’re starting a new small business online or already have one and want to get rid of losing to your competitors in the landscape of organic search, then you need to perform SEO analysis of your competitors. One of the best platforms that you can use for that purpose is Ahrefs that acts as a goldmine of information. Not only does it allow you to analyze your competitors comprehensively, but it also helps you to improve every possible aspect of your SEO strategy. In this article, you’ll learn how to perform competitor research for SEO using Ahrefs. So, let’s dive into it.
Getting Started On Ahrefs
Improving your SEO strategy to get more organic traffic is critical because it brings highly qualified leads to your business. According to Ahrefs stats, 53.3 percent of all the internet traffic visiting websites is generated through organic search. Performing competitor research allows you to improve your SEO strategy to rank higher in Google search results.
In order to perform competitor research, you’ll need to equip yourself with the following tools.
- Google Sheets (you can also use the template by Ahrefs)
- Ahrefs Account (you can access Ahrefs’ free trial account)
After that, you can follow the steps mentioned below to perform comprehensive and detailed research.
Identification of Your Competitors
It’s obvious that you first need to identify your competitors in order to analyze them. For that matter, you’ll need to perform extensive market research. You can check online community forums and social media communities, solicit customer feedback, analyze google search engine results to compile a list of your top competitors. Your competitors will be targeting the desired keywords for your business in organic search.
It’s important to note if you own an e-commerce site or a blog then searching for your competitors by using a single keyword won’t be a suitable option. That’s because such platforms usually target tens of hundreds of topics and keywords and have multiple pages as well. In such a scenario, we recommend you use the Ahrefs Site Explorer’s competing domains report where you’ll need to enter your domain and click on the organic search. Here the system will show you competing domains as shown in the image below.
Analysis of the Competition
After identifying your competitors, you’ll need to analyze the landscape of your competition. For that, you’ll need to use the Ahrefs Batch Analysis tool that allows you to analyze all of your competitors simultaneously. You can access this tool by going to the “Batch Analysis” option after logging in to your Ahrefs account. Here the system will ask you to enter the domain names of your competitors and clicking on the “Analyze” button after that will show you the desired results.
This tool brings up a plethora of useful information such as:
- DR (Domain Rating): It shows that the website of your competitor has strong backlinking.
- Referring domains’ number: The higher the number of high-quality referring domains, the better the site ranking.
- AR (Ahrefs Rank): The lower the AR number the stronger the site.
- Organic search traffic and keyword rankings’ number estimation: As the name suggests, the higher the result, the more organic traffic the site is generating.
Find Competitors’ Broken Pages
Finding the broker pages of your competitors can help your business a great deal. You can achieve it by using the following information.
You’ll need to open the competitor’s domain results page again and click on the “Best by links”. Here, you’ll also need to select the “404 not found” filter as shown in the image below.
After finding the broken pages, consider creating new pages on your websites with the same topic but with better content. Not only will it improve the integrity of your website, but it’ll also rank better than your competitors.
Search for the Most Valuable Keywords
At this point, you need to find out all the keywords that are working the best for your competitors to generate organic traffic. In order to do that, you’ll again need to open the domain results page and click on the “Organic search” option. Here you’ll need to click on the “Organic keywords” available in the left panel as shown in the image below.
You can select the keywords with the most volume and write them down in your spreadsheet to use them on your website. It’s important to note that each keyword has its own difficulty. The higher the difficulty number the tougher it’ll be to rank for them.
Find Content Gaps
Content gaps primarily contain the keywords that you’re not targeting but your competitors are. It’s obvious and needless to say that you need to create new attractive content that incorporates those keywords. In order to find the content gap, you’ll need to go to Ahrefs “Site Explorer”, enter your website’s domain and click on the “Content Gap”, as shown in the image below.
Find Out Competitors’ Content Generating Most Organic Traffic
Finding the top pages of your competitors allow you to answer the following:
- Which of their content pieces/articles is raking for the most valuable keywords?
- What pages are generating loads of traffic?
You can again go back to the “Ahrefs Site Explorer” and click on the “Top Pages”.
Identify Most Linked Content of Your Competitors
Links are basically referrals that allow you to generate more organic traffic. You can go to the “Best by links” report from the “Site Explorer” of Ahrefs to find the most linked content. Once you have found the links, consider creating similar articles using a better SEO approach. You’ll also need to contact the websites you’re linking to swap out links.
Bear in mind that the tips and tricks mentioned above for your website’s SEO are just the tip of the iceberg. You can watch this detailed video by Socialty Pro to learn how to perform competitor research for SEO using Ahrefs for better understanding.

Drug Rehab Social Media Marketing
Our Proven Strategy To Get Admits
We have officially cracked the code of social media marketing for drug rehab centers! And no, I’m not talking about repurposing the same recovery quotes and celebrity sobriety dates that every other center and agency is doing for you. The strategies that I am going to outline in this article are effective because we have been testing and proving them for various addiction treatment centers for years.
The social media strategies that we are going to outline in this article are focussed on video, education, and building trust. What this strategy does is nurtures the know, like, and trust factor which leads to an individual or a loved one contacting your center for help. We hold nothing back in this article. You can take these strategies and implement them yourself, or hire us to do it for you. Let’s dive in.
Why Your Drug Rehab Center Needs Social Media Marketing
Statista reports that 82% of people in the United States are active on social media in 2021. And with 1 in 10 people in the United States struggling with a substance abuse problem, you are guaranteed to reach them with the right strategy. Social media is a way to create transparency between your rehab center, your professionals, and the individuals and families online that need your help. I’m sorry, but posting inspirational recovery quotes and celebrity sobriety dates may get you some likes and engagement on your social media profiles, but it’s not going to drive you phone calls and leads, education is. Below are the social media platforms we are regularly seeing leads and admits coming from for the drug rehab centers we work with, and exactly how we are doing it.
Social Media Platforms We Are Getting Admits From
There are so many social media platforms out there now. It can seem daunting to come up with an effective strategy for each of them let alone staying active on them! Many treatment centers hire a dedicated social media person, like me! Before I started Socialty Pro, I worked internally at several addiction treatment centers to build up their online profiles, and was paid to figure out how to get families who need help to call us. Here are the platforms that I learned and have mastered so that you can hit the ground running and save more lives.
You may have heard this before, but YouTube is the second most popular search engine in the world, after Google, which (not so) coincidentally also owns it. While I am sure you have an effective SEO strategy to drive website traffic, you may not be leveraging YouTube as a search engine to reach even more people.
There are two ways That I leverage YouTube to grow addiction treatment centers online. And in fact, I have grown two of the largest YouTube channels for addiction treatment centers in the world using these strategies.
Leveraging YouTube as a search engine.
Leverage tools like Tube Buddy or VidIQ alongside SEO tools like Ahrefs or Semrush to find out what search terms are getting consistent views and could lead to an admit. I have found that by creating educational guides around individual drug types and questions consistently perform well. Creating detailed videos around “Benzo detox”, “Opiate detox”, “How to quit Heroin”, and “What is rehab like?”, for example, are terms that are evergreen which means that they will always be searched for.
Accompanying Your SEO Strategy
If you are actively writing blog articles and creating landing pages for levels of care that you offer, individual types of drugs that you help people recover from, and even mental health topics, create a video to embed within the article! This is such an effective and underutilized strategy! While it can be difficult to rank your page in the Google Search results, embedding a video into your article unlocks the ability for your page to be indexed in the Google Videos tab. Don’t sleep on this as it can drive you thousands of extra website visitors.
I know I know, you still think that TikTok is an app for kids and dancing videos. Well, while there is some of that, there is a THRIVING addiction recovery community on there. We have mastered TikTok in the recovery space as you can see in these accounts that we personally manage. Not only that, but we were named as one of the top TikTok marketing experts in the entire world (#18)!
TikTok is a short vertical video platform. 30 second or less educational content performs extremely well. Provide bullet pointed information, tell wild stories about substance abuse, and inspiring stories about recovery. Fun transitions with a powerful initial hook and trending music is a strategy we have proven over and over again. Go live one per week, and communicate with your audience by answering their questions. Learn more about our TikTok marketing strategies in this article.
Here’s where I am going to turn your entire to-date social media strategy on its head. Stop posting the same quotes over and over again. Every drug rehab center is doing it and if you want to stand apart from them, you have to do something different. Luckily, you can do this pretty easily. Go into this social media video marketing strategy with a repurposing mindset. 2021 has been a fascinating year for social media marketing. Because TikTok has stolen so much market share, all of the other platforms have gone all in on short vertical video content. What I personally do, is repurpose 30-second or less videos across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Pinterest.
After you post a 30-second Instagram Reel, share it into your Stories, and then save that story as a highlight on your account. I tested this strategy on our Instagram account for 30 days straight posting 2-3 videos every single day. In 30 days I gained over 10,000 new followers, and reached approximately 1.3million people. You can do this too. Go live on Instagram as well frequently. If you are able to use 2 phones, you can go live on Instagram and TikTok at the same time.
Facebook is now a mature social media platform, but is still used by hundreds of millions of people in the United States. Facebook is NOT a platform just to post your blog articles onto. It’s a direct line of communication with people who need your help. Yes, share your blog posts, upload videos that you are already creating, and regularly go live. However, interaction is where the real potential is to drive leads for your center. Regularly engage with and share your content into one of the hundreds of addiction recovery groups that have sometimes tens of thousands of active people in them. Encourage an open dialogue with people and regularly answer everyone’s comments as well as provide genuinely helpful information.
Pinterest is another very overlooked platform because it’s not in the forefront of everyone’s minds like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube.
However, Pinterest is a powerful search engine that’s demographic leans exactly to who you are trying to reach, mothers.
By regularly creating and posting content like how to help alcoholic or addicted spouses, addiction signs in children, and warning signs of drug abuse, you are tapping into a powerful audience. We have seen Pinterest consistently drive thousands of website visitors.
The best current marketing strategies for Pinterest:
- Repurpose your vertical videos as Idea Pins.
- Create a 1000X1500 image for every single page on your website. Optimize that Pin on Pinterest with the same title and meta description as in your web page and link to the article.
- Create boards around every level of care and treatment modality that you offer as well as categories of drugs.
- Post 8-10 Pins every day. I know this sounds alot but using a tool like Tailwind make this very simple to do. Typically a 70-30 rule is best practice where you “repin” 70% other people’s content into your boards, while posting 30% of your own content.

How to Rank Higher on Google My Business for Local SEO
In this era of technology, claiming and verifying the GMB (Google My Business) listing of your local business is critical for your local SEO strategy. According to the Statista stats, Google dominates the global search engine market and holds more than 92 percent of the total market share. Moreover, Socialty Pro reports that 46 percent of people searching on Google have a local intent in mind, and 86 percent of people use the internet to search for a local business on Google Maps.
That’s why it’s vital for any local business to rank higher on the Google search engine in order to survive online. Not only will it increase the chances of your business to show up in Google’s organic rankings, Google Maps, Local Finder, and Google Local Pack, but it’ll also improve your total number of customers. In this article, we’ll discuss how to use GMB to increase your foot and website traffic in order to improve your conversion rate.
How to Optimize Your Google My Business
The first step is to claim your Google My Business profile if you haven’t done it already. It’s also important to note that if you want to rank your local business on Google effectively, you’ll need to create your business profiles on other popular platforms such as Facebook, Yelp, etcetera as well. That’s because Google relies on these platforms to validate and aggregate your business information and ranks the profile accordingly. The following are the best tactics that you can use to rank higher on GMB for local SEO.
Name of Your Business
It’s critical to ensure that the name you enter on your GMB profile is exactly the same as mentioned on your website and other platforms. Otherwise, you won’t be able to achieve the desired results. Moreover, getting your Google My Business profile suspended is the last thing that you want.
Hours of Operation
Google My Business also asks you to enter the working hours of your business. You need to make sure that you enter this information carefully because you don’t want anyone to call you outside of working hours.
Not only will it frustrate people, but it’ll also cause the loss of potential customers. Moreover, it’s also import
ant to make sure that the same working hours of your business are also mentioned on your website as well as other platforms. It’ll work as a signal to Google that the entered information is accurate.
Correct URL to a Working Website
Entering the correct URL to a working website allows people to see the real people behind the services or products they’re purchasing. If you have a single location business, you can simply use your website’s landing page URL. On the other hand, if your business operates on multiple locations and has multiple landing pages for each location, you’ll need to ensure that GMB redirects people to the right location page.
Area Where Your Business Offers Services
Google My Business also asks you to enter the location(s) along with the zip codes where your business provides services. Even if you feel that you don’t need to enter your business location because you already serve customers in that area, it’s better to fill it out. Bear in mind that the customers that are physically closest to your business are the ideal ones. That’s why it’s important not to add the areas or zip codes of the places where you can’t offer services.
The best way to tell your customers more about your business is to use Attributes. Google My Business allows you to enter information about the type of services your business offers, such as accessibility, dining, payment, lodging, amenities, etcetera. You’ll need to choose only the relevant attributes to guide the visitors appropriately to choose your services over your competitors.
The very first thing that people notice about any business on Google My Business profile are photos. You need to make sure that you upload the photos that reflect your services or products most effectively and positively. Google My Business currently allows you to upload three different types of photos, which are:
- Cover Photo
- Business Photos
If you own a service-based business, then upload as many before and after photos as possible. Make sure that the photos you upload are attractive and clear to allow the people to envision themselves with your business.
Description About Your Business
It’s one of the most important factors that play a vital role in the local SEO of your business. You’ll need to enter a detailed description of your business that includes all the relevant and important keywords. In this section, you’ll also need to ensure that you clearly describe the type of products or services your business offers. Bear in mind that it’s never wise to overuse the same keywords, and you also mustn’t sound repetitive.

Top Instagram Marketing Strategies For Businesses In 2021 (And Beyond)
Though Instagram has been around for some time now, it still reigns supreme as the number 1 social platform audience for customer cultivation. In terms of time needed to build a large following on Instagram, it’s a high cost. But there are actionable ways to get to a point where your Instagram can generate leads and ultimately revenue. It will require your utmost attention and dedication.
Why You Need An Instagram Marketing Strategy
You might think that Instagram is too mature and is far too saturated for you to grow your business in 2021, but there are several reasons as to why developing a marketing strategy for this platform remains of the utmost importance. Over 1 billion people use Instagram every month, making it the second-ranked social network in terms of active users behind Facebook. Being one of the big 3 social networks, Instagram has a lot of financial weight to improve the stat it cares about most: time spent on the app. What this also means is that Instagram will consistently push out new features that encourage users to spend more time in-app and they will reward users who can maintain the highest engagement time.
Ask Yourself This Question First: Who Am I Trying To Help?
Before you dive into Instagram, you have to ask yourself what type of content you’re going to create that will offer value to people. We often hear value being thrown around from content creators but what does it really mean? It means giving someone an opportunity to learn something new, particularly around a subject they have a passion for. Value is providing actionable steps towards achieving a goal, giving them the spark they need to move forward. That’s where you find your niche. Take a step back, assess your expertise, and deliver on content that you already know best. There are people out there that need to know what you know.
Focus On One Subject
It’s tempting to latch onto viral content in different categories, but you should remember that you can make your core content fit the virality. The reality: it’s much more efficient to focus on the one subject you have an expertise in (or are building an expertise on). If you’re all over the place with your content, it’ll be less likely that the person who followed your account in the first place will engage with content he/she’s not interested in.
Prioritize New Instagram Features
Instagram’s main goal is to increase user time on their app. Newer features like Instagram Reels, Instagram Guides, and Carousels support this effort as they go head to head with their competitors. As an Instagram marketer, it’s important to capitalize on new features as quickly as possible. Instagram will reward early adopters with early access to new features in the future, boosting your engagement in the process. Newer features will also take care of some of the creative process for you; they are equipped with tools to help create variety in the way you present your content.
Understand What Matters Most to Instagram
As much as you might want to go against the grain, content will still always be dictated by the algorithm. That doesn’t mean the algorithm is designed to thwart your success; it’s actually there to encourage good and engaging content. It rewards those who can capture engagements. Currently, Instagram prioritizes the following engagements from least to most important: Likes (it takes little time to like a post), Comments (users spend a little more time on your post doing so), Saves (this tells Instagram that your post is important), and Shares (the ultimate indicator for Instagram that this piece of content is a winner).
The Key To Developing Good Content
As a business on Instagram, you have the opportunity to offer far more than just a pretty picture of yourself. You have critical information and inspiration that can help others with their passions. Carousels are an effective way to pack in content with context. They allow you to hook your audience to an idea and then expand on it with supporting information. With Carousels, you can populate up to 10 slides; it is best to use all 10 if you can. If you create an engaging piece of content, your audience will swipe to view all 10 which is a strong indicator to Instagram that this piece of content rocks. To create engaging content that not only fits Carousels but all kinds of content veritcals, apply the AIDA structure:
A: Attention — why should your audience care, focus on them not you
I: Interest — capture, give your audience more
D: Desire — give your audience the details, educate or entertain
A: Action — call to actions
A tried and true way to instantly grab your audience’s attention is through the RTO method:
If you were to create a piece of content with text using the RTO method, it would look something like this:
“Learn how to speak Chinese in less than 2 weeks, even if you don’t know how to speak a foreign language.”
Boom, you’ve got your audience’s attention. But now it’s up to you to meet their high expectations. Apply this strategy to any piece of content you make, whether it be a Reel or Carousel.
Maintain Consistent Daily Tactics
Once you nail down the content you’re going to create, the next step is to apply consistency to posting and community engagement. Work on posting manually 2-5 times a day from 7am-2pm. Dedicate 1-2 hours per day responding to every comment and DM that comes through. You want to reward your audience for paying attention to you. These are the people you want to pay attention to the most because they offer the highest chance of conversion to paying customers.
Next, hashtags should be used passively and should include a healthy mix of low, medium and high hashtag counts. In the low to medium range, your goal should be to be in the top 9 in hashtag search. Appearing in the top 9 posts will immediately boost your organic reach because these posts are the first to be seen by people searching any hashtag.
Finally, dedicate an hour everyday to the explore feature and find accounts most related to your niche. Comment 10 times a day on posts from these accounts and really focus on offering a substantive opinion. You might get a reply from the account you’re commenting on, but the most important reward is the account’s audience. Because this audience is within your niche, they very well could see value in your opinion and ultimately visit your profile.
Offer Guest Posts to Micro-Influencers
Once you have a solid foundation of SEO content built out, you should take some time out of your busy schedule to design or write a piece of content for an account with a large following in your industry space. Spend some time on this one and make it super valuable. If they like it, they will post it on their feed for free. The key here is to already have a valuable content stream that followers from this large account would be compelled to follow.
Use IG Stories To Communicate With Your Audience
Instagram stories are a gold mine for engagement because it offers you several unproduced ways to connect with your audience at a deeper level than your posts do. Think of it this way: while your feed is where your best content lives, your stories are where you get to show some of the process towards creating that content. Your consumers crave a brand that shares transparency and personality. Also, think of stories as a 24/7 focus group space. You can easily gather information on what type of content your audience prefers and also get them to help you decide what to make! Use the poll and ask question features if you’re stumped on what to offer next.

The SEO Pillar Page Strategy
So, everyone has been telling you for ages that you need to do this thing called SEO on your website in order to get found on Google. Maybe you’ve hired a company through fiverr or Upwork in the past to work on your website’s SEO, or even tried it yourself, but nothing has worked. You think to yourself, there has to be a better SEO strategy out there! I hate to break this to you, but doing some keyword research is not enough. And even worse, many “SEO experts” that you can find for cheap online will build tons of spammy backlinks coming into your website. While relevant backlinks can help increase your website’s authority, building too many too quickly or links that come from spammy websites can actually hurt you more than help! Focussing on a comprehensive SEO pillar page strategy is going to be FAR more effective in helping you to get leads, because it focuses on the customer!
What is a Pillar Page?
Pillar pages are also known as content pillars. These are core service or product based pages on your website designed and created to provide as much information and value on that specific core “pillar” as possible. Pillar pages are often used as a broader category that you can later create sub category pages under called “cluster pages”.
The SEO pillar page strategy has been around for years and is widely considered the most effective SEO strategy from a content perspective. Pillar pages provide you with a comprehensive system to easily outline everything that you offer as well as provide easy website navigation once fully executed.
Examples of Pillar Pages
You will see examples of pillar pages on most established service based businesses’ websites. Let’s outline a few examples. Let’s say you are a drug rehab center. One example of a pillar page may be “detox”. In this case you would want to create a very detailed and informative website page about your detox program, how long detox takes, how much detox costs, anything your client should know before attending a detox program, and all of the individual types of drugs or alcohol that you can help people detox from. These individual pages are what’s known as topic cluster pages, but more on that later! Another example of a pillar strategy would be if you are a dentist or orthodontist, you may offer dental emergency services. Create a very detailed page outlining every FAQ about emergency dental work.
Why Pillar Pages Are an Effective SEO Strategy
The SEO pillar page strategy is so effective because it systematically provides an outline for every service that you offer. By creating these pillar pages for your products and services and then breaking them down further into cluster pages, you are creating high quality educational content around everything that your customer is searching for online! I like to think of these pillar and cluster pages as employees that work for you 24/7 for free. Your customers are searching for your help around the clock. If you don’t create specific pages that are designed with your customer in mind around everything that you offer, they will not be able to find you!
How To Outline A Pillar Content Strategy For SEO
Outlining a pillar content strategy for your website can be a very fun process! Not only will outlining this help you to have a much more clear understanding of how to organize the content on your website, but you can use this strategy to create content for video platforms like TikTok and YouTube as well as images for social media. Here are a few questions from our onboarding process with new clients that you can use to outline your own for your website.
Turning Your Pillar Pages into Cluster Pages
After all of your pillar pages have been created, it’s time to break them down further. This process is called cluster pages, and essentially we’re creating individual pages or sub categories that fit within the main pillar. In the image example, you can see a very detailed pillar and cluster strategy that we created for this client. In this example, “drug rehab” was our initial pillar page. We then broke that down into individual clusters.
Depending on your industry, this can be broken down several times. For instance, drug rehab is a very general term. This could be broken down into individual categories of drugs like Benzodiazepines or Opioids. You could also consider these as sub clusters. Each of those sub clusters, could then be broken down even further.
Internal Linking Is The Cluster Page Strategy’s Secret Sauce
So now that you have outlined and started creating your pillar and cluster pages, you need to tie them together! Internal linking is a very underutilized aspect of SEO that is very important. Within each of your pillar pages, you should link to all of the related cluster pages using the target keyword for that individual page. For instance we have a detailed resource on drug rehab SEO that you can click to learn more. All of your cluster pages should also link back into your main pillar page. These internal links pass page authority and relevancy from one page to the other. It also makes for a very user friendly experience which keeps your customers on your website longer.
Where to Promote Your Pillar Pages and Cluster Pages
After you have created a new page, you’re going to want to promote it! Promoting these pages will not only get more eyeballs onto the services that you offer, but it will help to get your new page indexed faster on Google. You can learn more about how to do this in this video.
Best places to promote a new website page:
- Your Google my business
- Your email list
- Social media pages
- Relevant Facebook pages
- Relevant Subreddit communities
- Quora questions
- Promote the pages with Facebook Ads
