I’m sorry, but posting inspirational recovery quotes and celebrity sobriety dates may get you some likes and engagement on your social media profiles, but it’s not going to drive you phone calls and leads, education is. Below are the social media platforms we are regularly seeing leads and admits coming from for the drug rehab centers we work with, and exactly how we are doing it.
Social Media Platforms We Are Getting Admits From
There are so many social media platforms out there now. It can seem daunting to come up with an effective strategy for each of them let alone staying active on them! Many treatment centers hire a dedicated social media person, like me! Before I started Socialty Pro, I worked internally at several addiction treatment centers to build up their online profiles, and was paid to figure out how to get families who need help to call us. Here are the platforms that I learned and have mastered so that you can hit the ground running and save more lives.
You may have heard this before, but YouTube is the second most popular search engine in the world, after Google, which (not so) coincidentally also owns it. While I am sure you have an effective SEO strategy to drive website traffic, you may not be leveraging YouTube as a search engine to reach even more people.
There are two ways That I leverage YouTube to grow addiction treatment centers online. And in fact, I have grown two of the largest YouTube channels for addiction treatment centers in the world using these strategies.
Leveraging YouTube as a search engine.
Leverage tools like Tube Buddy or VidIQ alongside SEO tools like Ahrefs or Semrush to find out what search terms are getting consistent views and could lead to an admit. I have found that by creating educational guides around individual drug types and questions consistently perform well. Creating detailed videos around “Benzo detox”, “Opiate detox”, “How to quit Heroin”, and “What is rehab like?”, for example, are terms that are evergreen which means that they will always be searched for.
Accompanying Your SEO Strategy
If you are actively writing blog articles and creating landing pages for levels of care that you offer, individual types of drugs that you help people recover from, and even mental health topics, create a video to embed within the article! This is such an effective and underutilized strategy! While it can be difficult to rank your page in the Google Search results, embedding a video into your article unlocks the ability for your page to be indexed in the Google Videos tab. Don’t sleep on this as it can drive you thousands of extra website visitors.
I know I know, you still think that TikTok is an app for kids and dancing videos. Well, while there is some of that, there is a THRIVING addiction recovery community on there. We have mastered TikTok in the recovery space as you can see in these accounts that we personally manage. Not only that, but we were named as one of the top TikTok marketing experts in the entire world (#18)!
TikTok is a short vertical video platform. 30 second or less educational content performs extremely well. Provide bullet pointed information, tell wild stories about substance abuse, and inspiring stories about recovery. Fun transitions with a powerful initial hook and trending music is a strategy we have proven over and over again. Here’s where I am going to turn your entire to-date social media strategy on its head. Stop posting the same quotes over and over again. Every drug rehab center is doing it and if you want to stand apart from them, you have to do something different. Luckily, you can do this pretty easily. Go into this social media video marketing strategy with a repurposing mindset. 2021 has been a fascinating year for social media marketing. Because TikTok has stolen so much market share, all of the other platforms have gone all in on short vertical video content. What I personally do, is repurpose 30-second or less videos across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Pinterest.
After you post a 30-second Instagram Reel, share it into your Stories, and then save that story as a highlight on your account. I tested this strategy on our Instagram account for 30 days straight posting 2-3 videos every single day. In 30 days I gained over 10,000 new followers, and reached approximately 1.3million people. You can do this too. Go live on Instagram as well frequently. If you are able to use 2 phones, you can go live on Instagram and TikTok at the same time.
Facebook is now a mature social media platform, but is still used by hundreds of millions of people in the United States. Facebook is NOT a platform just to post your blog articles onto. It’s a direct line of communication with people who need your help. Yes, share your blog posts, upload videos that you are already creating, and regularly go live. However, interaction is where the real potential is to drive leads for your center. Regularly engage with and share your content into one of the hundreds of addiction recovery groups that have sometimes tens of thousands of active people in them. Encourage an open dialogue with people and regularly answer everyone’s comments as well as provide genuinely helpful information.
Pinterest is another very overlooked platform because it’s not in the forefront of everyone’s minds like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube.
However, Pinterest is a powerful search engine that’s demographic leans exactly to who you are trying to reach, mothers.
By regularly creating and posting content like how to help alcoholic or addicted spouses, addiction signs in children, and warning signs of drug abuse, you are tapping into a powerful audience. We have seen Pinterest consistently drive thousands of website visitors.
The best current marketing strategies for Pinterest:
- Repurpose your vertical videos as Idea Pins.
- Create a 1000X1500 image for every single page on your website. Optimize that Pin on Pinterest with the same title and meta description as in your web page and link to the article.
- Create boards around every level of care and treatment modality that you offer as well as categories of drugs.
- Post 8-10 Pins every day. I know this sounds alot but using a tool like Tailwind make this very simple to do. Typically a 70-30 rule is best practice where you “repin” 70% other people’s content into your boards, while posting 30% of your own content.

A tried and true way to instantly grab your audience’s attention is through the RTO method:
If you were to create a piece of content with text using the RTO method, it would look something like this:
“Learn how to speak Chinese in less than 2 weeks, even if you don’t know how to speak a foreign language.”
Boom, you’ve got your audience’s attention. But now it’s up to you to meet their high expectations. Apply this strategy to any piece of content you make, whether it be a Reel or Carousel.
Maintain Consistent Daily Tactics
Once you nail down the content you’re going to create, the next step is to apply consistency to posting and community engagement. Work on posting manually 2-5 times a day from 7am-2pm. Dedicate 1-2 hours per day responding to every comment and DM that comes through. You want to reward your audience for paying attention to you. These are the people you want to pay attention to the most because they offer the highest chance of conversion to paying customers.
Next, hashtags should be used passively and should include a healthy mix of low, medium and high hashtag counts. In the low to medium range, your goal should be to be in the top 9 in hashtag search. Appearing in the top 9 posts will immediately boost your organic reach because these posts are the first to be seen by people searching any hashtag.
Finally, dedicate an hour everyday to the explore feature and find accounts most related to your niche. Comment 10 times a day on posts from these accounts and really focus on offering a substantive opinion. You might get a reply from the account you’re commenting on, but the most important reward is the account’s audience. Because this audience is within your niche, they very well could see value in your opinion and ultimately visit your profile.

Once you have a solid foundation of SEO content built out, you should take some time out of your busy schedule to design or write a piece of content for an account with a large following in your industry space. How Do You Go Live On TikTok In 2021? Here's How!
Going live on TikTok in 2021 is very easy to do! That is assuming you meet TikTok’s requirements however. As of 2021, TikTok requires you to have at least 1000 followers and be over the age of 16 if you want to live stream. There are many benefits of using TikTok live including being able to monetize your account through gifts, it can help you to grow your TikTok page, and allow you to connect with your audience and show them what you’re all about! Follow these simple steps to go live on TikTok!
Step 1 to go live on TikTok is to open the app and then make sure you are logged in to the correct account you want to live stream to. Then, at the bottom of your screen, you will see a row of icons. Click on the + icon that is the bottom center of your screen.
After clicking the + icon at the bottom of your screen it will take you to the content creation screen. Here you’ll be able to directly record a new video, upload a video, and yes, go live! It will automatically default the screen to the 15 seconds recording. At the bottom of the screen again, slide over to the left until it is changed to the live screen.
After sliding to the far right screen you are able to go live! Here, you’ll be able to change and update your TikTok live’s title for people, see how many of your followers are currently online, and a bunch of other features! Here’s a few of the other cool things you can do.

Directly below where you would add your live stream title you’ll see a button that says “support non profit”. This is a pretty silly TikTok live feature, but if you click on enhancements, you’re able to apply some like smoothness, the size of your eyes, and even the shape of your face!
How to Share Your TikTok Live
This is a really convenient way to spread the reach of your TikTok lives. You can share them! Before you actually go live, you can click the share icon and then choose whereever you would like to share your live stream to!

There are a few additional TikTok live settings that you are able to set. If you click on the settings gear icon, here you’ll be able to choose if you want to have comments turned on or off and if you would like to receive gifts or not.

What is a Pillar Page?
Pillar pages are also known as content pillars. These are core service or product based pages on your website designed and created to provide as much information and value on that specific core “pillar” as possible. Pillar pages are often used as a broader category that you can later create sub category pages under called “cluster pages”.
The SEO pillar page strategy has been around for years and is widely considered the most effective SEO strategy from a content perspective. Pillar pages provide you with a comprehensive system to easily outline everything that you offer as well as provide easy website navigation once fully executed.
Examples of Pillar Pages
You will see examples of pillar pages on most established service based businesses’ websites. Let’s outline a few examples. Let’s say you are a drug rehab center. One example of a pillar page may be “detox”. In this case you would want to create a very detailed and informative website page about your detox program, how long detox takes, how much detox costs, anything your client should know before attending a detox program, and all of the individual types of drugs or alcohol that you can help people detox from. These individual pages are what’s known as topic cluster pages, but more on that later! Another example of a pillar strategy would be if you are a dentist or orthodontist, you may offer dental emergency services. Create a very detailed page outlining every FAQ about emergency dental work.
Why Pillar Pages Are an Effective SEO Strategy
The SEO pillar page strategy is so effective because it systematically provides an outline for every service that you offer. By creating these pillar pages for your products and services and then breaking them down further into cluster pages, you are creating high quality educational content around everything that your customer is searching for online! I like to think of these pillar and cluster pages as employees that work for you 24/7 for free. Your customers are searching for your help around the clock. If you don’t create specific pages that are designed with your customer in mind around everything that you offer, they will not be able to find you!
How To Outline A Pillar Content Strategy For SEO
Outlining a pillar content strategy for your website can be a very fun process! Not only will outlining this help you to have a much more clear understanding of how to organize the content on your website, but you can use this strategy to create content for video platforms like TikTok and YouTube as well as images for social media. Here are a few questions from our onboarding process with new clients that you can use to outline your own for your website.
Turning Your Pillar Pages into Cluster Pages
After all of your pillar pages have been created, it’s time to break them down further. This process is called cluster pages, and essentially we’re creating individual pages or sub categories that fit within the main pillar. In the image example, you can see a very detailed pillar and cluster strategy that we created for this client. In this example, “drug rehab” was our initial pillar page. We then broke that down into individual clusters.
Depending on your industry, this can be broken down several times. For instance, drug rehab is a very general term. This could be broken down into individual categories of drugs like Benzodiazepines or Opioids. You could also consider these as sub clusters. Each of those sub clusters, could then be broken down even further.
Internal Linking Is The Cluster Page Strategy’s Secret Sauce
So now that you have outlined and started creating your pillar and cluster pages, you need to tie them together! Internal linking is a very underutilized aspect of SEO that is very important. Within each of your pillar pages, you should link to all of the related cluster pages using the target keyword for that individual page. These internal links pass page authority and relevancy from one page to the other. It also makes for a very user friendly experience which keeps your customers on your website longer.

2. Outline Your TikTok Content Strategy Ahead of Time
This may sound silly, but as the saying goes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. As you can see in the screenshot, this is my content plan for TikTok videos I believed my target audience would be interested in. This is also helpful to do in advance to increase your consistency. You can knock as many as you can out, and save them as drafts. Then just post them when you can. This is a huge time saver.
3. Pay Close Attention to TikTok Trends – Put a Unique Spin on Them
The best advice I can give you is to actually become a consumer on TikTok. Spend time on the platform. Learn about different trends, sounds, effects, and styles of videos that are working for people. This will get your creative juices going so that you can leverage some of these trends and apply them towards growing your business.
4. Research Your Competition, and Your Spin on Their Top Videos
In every video you should be providing a clear CTA (call to action). I like to do this at the end of my videos, but you can also experiment with putting it in other places. For example, I end most of my videos by saying, “For more tips to grow your business online, hit the heart and follow button!”. This tells viewers exactly what my channel is about, how it benefits them, and it converts far more people than just assuming they will follow you!
5. Provide Clear CTA’s in Your Videos
This should be a no-brainer. Do some quick research on hashtags that are in your target industry. Look at what some of the top videos are, look at those people’s/businesses profiles, follow them, and look at what is working for them. I use this strategy often. I will research what other digital marketers top performing videos are, what hashtags they’re using, if they’re using a specific sound, etc… Then I will essentially copy their video, but put my own unique spin or perspective on it.
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Copy what works!
6. Add a Link In Your Bio Once You’ve Cross 1000 TikTok Followers
So, this feature automatically unlocks once you’ve crossed the 1000 follower threshold. You will be able to add a clickable link to your bio and you can even provide text above it. As you build your audience and post consistently, you will get hundreds if not thousands or more people visiting your profile every day. Many of them will click that link if it applies to them! I have tested driving clicks to paid courses and asking users to subscribe to my YouTube channel. Both have had amazing results.
7. Repost Your Best TikTok Videos With Different Hashtags
One of the best strategies to grow on TikTok is to repost your top performing videos! Now don’t do this every day, but if you have a really great video from a month or so ago that blew up, why not post it again? It will bring in a whole new slew of viewers and followers and you don’t need to do any additional work! You can download your TikTok videos right from the videos settings or you can use a website like this to download the videos without a watermark and then reupload. In case the video is really a top performer and already at the top of previously used hashtag, I like to change it up and use different hashtags. This prevents duplicates from showing on those hashtags and allows you to reach a wider audience.
8. Stay Consistent! Post Multiple Videos Every Day.
Consistency is key on TikTok and they want you to post a lot of videos! The key here is to post as many quality videos per day as you can without burning out. I’ve found that the sweet spot for me is ~3-4 videos every day. Try not to skip a day. This is why batch recording many videos, saving them as drafts, and then posting them later is an extremely helpful strategy.
9. Reply to Every Comment. Video Replies on TikTok are AMAZING
Not only will responding to every comment you get build you a dedicated audience over time, TikTok has an amazing feature called video responses. As the name implies, you can respond to their comment with a video and their comment will be displayed on screen. This is an amazing growth strategy for businesses because not only are you answering a potential client, you now have more videos! Regularly encourage your viewers to leave comments on your posts, and this will help you create more videos that have a chance of reaching a wider audience.
10. Try Live Streaming on TikTok!
If you haven’t live streamed on TikTok yet, give it a shot! It’s a lot of fun and very similar to other platforms. It’s a great strategy to build and nurture your audience. Your live stream will also show up in non followers feeds giving new people the opportunity to subscribe to you as well!
